PARK MUSIC New Horizons '15
On Saturday at 4:00 pm, the Ensemble Doodul Sori with Korean traditional drumming and dancing initiates the walk from the parking lot behind the Nahetal Golf Club to the Trombacher Hof. Areas with German-Korean composer Isang Yun’s sensitive harp, flute, violin, and cello (Nieuw Ensemble) music interrupts the rousing drum rhythms.
Isang Yun: “A composer cannot look at the world in which he lives with indifference. I want to express pain, injustice with my music.”
Having arrived at Trombacher Hof, there is time for a picnic lunch on the meadow at Trombach after a culminating drum thunder on the studio terrace. Then, the journey continues into the former convent chapel, where a film shows Isang Yun in many facets of his life.
The subsequent concert is a symbiosis of Isang Yun's chamber works, poetry from Nelly Sachs (of whom he is particularly fond), traditional Korean flute music, and new drum music.
At night, a light installation (Ingo Bracke) illuminates the pediment of Trombacher Hof.
Sunday begins at 11:00 am directly on the Tormbacher Hof in the former convent chapel. Young Korean composers Hannah Hanbiel Choi, Na Sukju, and Saehon Chung have written works especially for the festival, which will be premiered by the Ensemble Crush. The premiere of a work by Uikyung Lee will also be heard. There will be a concluding conversation with the audience (moderated by Sigune von Osten) with the composers present. The pieces will then be played again.
After this display of modern music, there will be a picnic lunch on the meadow at Trombach.
Around 2:00 pm, the SoundJourney begins through the lushly growing Trombach Meadow, which glows yellow and pink. It is dedicated to Wolf von Osten, co-founder and promoter of PARKMUSIK New Horizons, who unexpectedly crossed over into an unknown world in November. Artists who have been guests at the festival in recent years will offer him aural and visual gifts: Hans van Koolwijk, Sound Sculptures, Hannes Fessmann, Sound Stones, Frank Thomé, percussion, Gregor Schulenburg, Zen flutes, Ensemble zwischenTANZ, Guojian Liang, LandArt, Saichu Yohansya, Javanese gong, Stephen Montague, a playback.
