By the media she has been called the "Diva of New Music": Sigune von Osten, soprano, singer and music artist, born in Dresden, raised in Hamburg and giving performances all over the world.
Right from the start of her career as singer and music artist she has committed herself to the music and art of her times. Her 20th century repertoire of literature is huge and comprises the works of Schönberg, Berg, Webern as well as Hindemith, Eisler, Satie and Weill. She worked with composers such as John Cage, Olivier Messiaen, who counted her among his favourite interpreters, Luigi Nono, Krzysztof Penderecki, Cristobal Halffter and with conductors such as Igor Markevitch, Ernest Bour, Lothar Zagrosek and Peter Eötvös. She has sung more than 100 world premieres which mostly specifically were written for her voice. Concert tours as much as radio and television recordings have brought her as a soloist to many well known festivals (Salzburg, Vienna, Berlin, Rome, Copenhagen, Amsterdam), to the US, to South America and Japan. She sang main parts on the stages of Stuttgart, Paris, Venice, Madrid, Lisbon et.al.
In 1995, in her city of birth, Dresden, she founded the ensemble MUSICA TEMPORALE for contemporary music, which was sponsored by the Kulturstiftung Sachsen (foundation for culture, Saxony). Until 2003 she was the artistic director of this ensemble. During this period, among other things, she commissioned music for the ensemble which was performed at many festivals of contemporary music in and outside the country (Dresdner Tage der zeitgenössischen Musik, EXPO Hannover, Klangaktionen Munich, Soundways St. Petersburg / Russia, Musica Nova / Sofia et al.). In 1996 she founded ART POINT ? Extraordinary Cultural Projects at the Trombacher Hof in Rhineland-Palatinate and the intermediate ART POINTensemble.
She gives lecture concerts and workshops on contemporary music and the music of the 20th century, and she encourages, again and again, young composers to write pieces for her. For many years she has been working together with non-European musicians such as the Chinese Wu Wei, with whom she collaboratively released a CD (CageAnimations WERGO).
Nowadays, Sigune von Osten works as singer and music artist alike. She composes, creates, choreographs and directs projects ranging from music to movements, voice(s), visual arts, video, architecture, landscape, light and space (ART POINT / Projects). Often she is the producer, too. Moreover, she taught as a university professor of a singing class (Musikhochschule Würzburg) for 10 years, and works now as a coach, teaching how to use the voice in the widest sense of expression in workshops, seminars, interpretation classes and master classes in and outside the country and works also as a coach for voice and body language.
